Trial of Position: The Blooding
Rules of Engagement
The purpose of this Trial is to test the skills of new cadets and to determine whether they are ready to advance into the ranks of MechWarriors. The Trial will consist of three one-on-one battles, each one happening after the last. The trial will proceed as follows:
- First the cadet will choose an OmniMech.
- Then the cadet’s three opponents will each choose their OmniMechs. One will be of a lighter weight class, one will be the same weight class, and the last OmniMech will be from a heavier weight class.
- The cadet will then face each opponent, one-on-one in a Circle of Equals, in succession from lightest weight class to heaviest.
- The Circle of Equals will be the crater at E4/E5 on the Tourmaline Desert map.
- The cadet and their first opponent (the opponent in the lighter weight class OmniMech) are permitted to enter the Circle of Equals from the craters ramp. They will face away from each other at opposite ends of the Circle and power down.
- The subsequent opponents will line up wherever they like. It is advised that if they intend to use the ramp that they move into a position to use it before the Trial starts. If the opponent intends to jump down from the crater’s rim then they can set up wherever. DO NOT use other cadets waiting to take their Trail or their opponents as shields. The E5 high ground is reserved for the Trial’s observer.
- When the command to “strike” is given the opponents will power up and duel.
- If the cadet wins the next opponent can move into the Circle of Equals. The Trial can continue as soon as the next opponent starts moving down the ramp or over the rim of the crater.
- If an opponent destroys the cadet’s OmniMech the Trial is over.
- The number of opponents killed reflects the cadet’s new rank within the Warrior Caste: 0 kills = Remains a cadet; 1 kill = MechWarrior; 2 kills = Star Commander; 3 kills = Star Captain
Additional Rules:
- No use of artillery or air strikes! It is unClanlike to use these in an honorable Trial.
- If an opponent not in the Circle is stuck by stray fire they are permitted to enter in the Trial against whomever hit them.
- In the event that a light OmniMech is chosen by the cadet, they will face an opponent of the lightest tonnage available followed by another OmniMech of the second opponent’s choosing.
- Similarly, if an assault OmniMech is chosen by the cadet, they will face an opponent in the heavy weight class, an opponent in the assault weight class, and an opponent in a Dire Wolf.
Trial of Position: Promotion
Rule of Engagement
This Trial of Position is for warriors who already have ranks within the Warrior Caste and are moving up within those ranks.
- Once initial ranks within the Cluster have been establish promotions will happen on an as needed basis. - When a new Star or Trinary is being formed warriors currently holding needed ranks can recommend lower rank warriors within their unit for promotion. For example, if a new Star Commander is needed, other Star Commanders can recommend, discuss, and select a MechWarrior they think will be good in the position. Similarly Star Captains can pick from existing Star Commanders for an open Star Captain position.
- If more than one warrior is chosen as an appropriate candidate for the open position, a series one-on-one Trials will be held to determine who is best suited for the promotion.
- If an officer is deemed unfit for command warriors are permitted to challenge them for their position.
- The challenge must be submitted to all Cluster officers, a judgement will be made on whether the reason for the challenge is valid, and if it is a valid challenge a one-on-one Trial of Position will be held as early as possible. The winner of the Trial gets the rank and a grace one week period from further challenges.
- A Trial of Refusal can be held to attempt to overturn the judgment of the officers.
